«Stop the engine, Rosy stops the engine immediately!». These were the last words of Fabrizio Cherchi, a 58-year-old pensioner who died yesterday after slipping into the compactor of the Portoscuso eco-centre.

He shouted them at Rosa Vita, the worker who ran the compactor and who immediately shut down the plant but for Cherchi there was nothing he could do.

«I was in line at the gate - says one of the two young men who preferred not to give his name - I heard Fabrizio shouting asking to turn off the engine, I saw the girl running towards the now switched off plant and then her desperate cries they rushed to his aid. It was a terrible scene, it was impossible for us to save Fabrizio, he had ended up in the compactor that imprisoned him, we activated the rescue services ». No one from outside could clearly see how the accident happened.
