The District Anti-Mafia Directorate and the Turin Carabinieri were certain that the voice intercepted for a long time as part of a large anti-drug operation was his. So first they investigated him, then arrested him and held him in custody for a year and a half. In the end, once the trial was over, the conviction did not change, so much so that prosecutor Francesca Locci asked for him to be sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison. It's a shame that Paolo Gaviano , a 53-year-old from Cagliari, at least had nothing to do with that Piedmontese investigation - as now established by the judges. Proof? In some passages the man intercepted made comments on the beauty of a girl, but Gaviano could never have made those comments because he cannot see.

Absolution

The proceedings coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Piedmontese capital against the 53-year-old from Cagliari, defended by the lawyers Francesco Marongiu and Marco Fausto Piras, considered to have participated in a ' criminal conspiracy aimed at drug trafficking . Paolo Gaviano is also under investigation in an investigation by the Cagliari DDA, conducted by prosecutor Danilo Tronci, on suspicion of being the ringleader of a trafficking organization that operated in the city, but with the Piedmontese group - as demonstrated by his lawyers - it had nothing to do with it. The two wiretaps that the ROS and the Turin Prosecutor's Office attributed to him as rumors would not have been supported by any recognition or investigation. The man heard by the military claimed to have seen the police and commented on the beauty of some girls, something the accused would never have been able to do due to his blindness.

The evidence dissolved

In Via Bosco Cappuccio, where the drug exchanges allegedly took place, there are other people under investigation for drug trafficking, therefore without observation, control and shadowing (OCP) it is impossible to establish with certainty who was collecting the goods. What made the investigators suspicious was the nickname "Eye" given to the suspect by his accomplices, but the interceptions also established that that person could see well in one eye, while the suspect could not see at all. When the defense in the courtroom then asked to understand how Gaviano's name had been attributed to that voice, leading to his arrest, the prosecution explained that he would have been recognized by the Cagliaritan military, without however indicating who had done it. identification. And the judges, in the end, were convinced that there had really been an exchange of people and acquitted him with full force.

The investigation

In April 2021, the "Junior" operation exploded with various arrests, including two on the island. The Turin DDA had dismantled a gang specialized in drug trafficking from Spain to Italy, with branches in Sardinia, Piedmont and Sicily. Rivers of cocaine, hashish and amphetamines which also ended up, in part, in Cagliari. Paolo Gaviano, however, was not part of this gang.

Last November, Gaviano was also arrested as part of the “Family & Friends” operation of the Cagliari District Anti-Mafia Directorate, which resulted in 40 precautionary measures in Sardinia, Liguria, Emilia, Tuscany and Abruzzo. Giovanni Portas from Cagliari would have been at the head of the gang, while Gaviano would have controlled the drug dealing activity. The accusation is that of trafficking in large quantities of drugs, mainly hashish and cocaine.
