"There's a line between legitimate criticism, even harsh criticism, and defamation. I believe that line has been largely crossed, given that political sentiments have degenerated into personal insults that have nothing to do with democratic debate." Oristano Mayor Massimiliano Sanna's response to the accusations leveled yesterday by the Oristano al Centro group during a press conference begins with the possibility of legal action. " I'll leave it to my lawyers to decide what action to take regarding the personal insults, but I feel it's my duty to make some clarifications on a political level, out of respect for the city," the mayor stated.
Addressing the political conflict, Sanna defends the decisions made in recent weeks, starting with the dismissal of the council. "I have always interpreted the role of Mayor as one that must harmonize the diverse views of the majority that nominated and supported him," he explains. "Two political forces, Oristano al Centro and the Reformers, had called for the dismissal, while the other parties had expressed a different position. My synthesis was precisely that of dismissal."
Sanna also emphasizes that, following that decision, the parties were asked to submit a shortlist of names to reconstitute the executive. "The only party that didn't submit a proposal was Oristano al Centro, even though it was among the first to call for the elimination." This behavior, according to the mayor, suggests a clear political agenda: "It leads me to believe that behind that request was a final goal: to reach early elections while trying to regain political integrity before the city."
The mayor also addressed the position of former Urban Planning Councilor Ivano Cuccu: "Over time, it has become politically untenable within the majority." When three political forces called for his replacement, he added, "it was clear that the conditions for his continued tenure were no longer met."
Finally, the call for clarity regarding the accusations leveled against the majority. "If there are accusations, let's name them and provide specific details. Insinuations can't be made in the dark. Assertions must be supported with concrete evidence."
Regarding the replacement of councilors Ivano Cuccu and Carmen Murru, Sanna reiterated that the decision "is not related to the work done," but "to the need to reconstruct a more solid and functional political framework for the continuation of the administrative action," recalling that "the resignation of a public office can generate friction and resentment, but none of us lasts forever."
