The green light has arrived from the ministry, together with funding, for the doubling of the Macomer CPR, the detention and repatriation center for irregular migrants . The structure, launched in January 2021, will be expanded, raised and renovated, thanks to funding of 7 million euros , allocated by the Government with the last finance law.

The intervention was also confirmed by the Prefecture of Nuoro. The current capacity of 50 guests will be exceeded to reach one hundred , as established in the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2018 at the Ministry of the Interior.

The intervention is also confirmed by the mayor Riccardo Uda , these are previous agreements contained in the memorandum of understanding. «We are talking to the Prefecture of Nuoro to try to understand what the consequences are for our town and the territory - says Mayor Uda -, to also understand what the repercussions will be on our community, as well as sorting out some issues of a technical and administrative, now outdated and in need of renewal".

The mayor wants to understand what the compensation for the territory will be announced by the previous municipal administration at the time of signing the protocol with the ministry.

The Non Cpr movements, who staged a protest last Sunday, with megaphones and incitements in Arabic, were against the doubling of the structure and guests. Messages that were collected inside, so much so that some of the guests set fire to some mattresses, activating a fire that was immediately put out by the firefighters.
