The health crisis in Sardinia and the shortage of doctors employed by the ASL cannot be seen in the numbers.

The Gimbe Foundation highlights this in a report. The Island spends a lot, more than the national average, for staff employed in the regional health service. In the territory, in fact, - 2022 data - there are 13.4 units of employed staff per 1,000 inhabitants. In this case, Sardinia is in ninth place above the Italian average which is equal to 11.6.

«In 2022, there were 124,296 doctors working in healthcare facilities: 101,827 as employees of the NHS and 22,469 as employees of facilities equivalent to the NHS. - explains the Gimbe Foundation - The national average is 2.11 doctors per 1,000 inhabitants, with a range that varies from 1.80 in Campania to 2.64 in Sardinia ».

On the resources front, the per capita expenditure for employees in the region in 2023 was 833 euros compared to the Italian average of 672 euros. This time, Sardinia is fifth, after Bolzano, Valle d'Aosta, Trento and Friuli. Furthermore, in 2022 - highlights Gimbe - the expenditure for the units of employees of the regional health service is 60,123 euros (10th place), while the average in Italy stops at 57,140 euros.
