The project promoted by the Regional Department of Industry called "Greenline, Greenways as a new development opportunity for Sulcis Iglesiente" is getting underway in Sulcis Iglesiente . This project involves the redevelopment of the disused railway, formerly the FMS, which runs from Siliqua to Tratalias, passing through the municipalities of Narcao, Nuxis, Villaperuccio, Santadi, Piscinas, Giba, and San Giovanni Suergiu, for the creation of a cycle/pedestrian path of high naturalistic, historical, cultural, and tourist value.
"Today, with the submission of the Agreement from the Industry Department to the Province of Sulcis Iglesiente, the implementing body for the project," explains Councilor Emanuele Cani, "the implementation phases of a project we have believed in from the very beginning can begin. This project aims to provide a significant boost to the creation of a new model of sustainable territorial development."
"The past production model," Cani emphasizes, "must not prevent us from seeking new avenues of development, which, starting from the rich mining and industrial heritage of Sulcis, bases our new and renewed territorial approach on these very elements."
The project involves the redevelopment of a disused railway section of approximately 52 km for cycling and pedestrian use. This will enhance, among other things, the abandoned industrial heritage , including the railway system, connecting it to the various naturalistic and cultural elements, and will also enable the development of new entrepreneurial initiatives.
The project, which received €13 million from the Development and Cohesion Fund, also includes the cycle paths previously planned as part of the Sulcis Plan, which had not yet been implemented.
