The flu in Italy strikes like it hasn't happened since 2010. The data from the latest Influnet monitoring by the Higher Institute of Health say so: the contagion, on a population that for years has worn masks to defend itself from the coronavirus, arrived earlier and it spread very quickly.

In the week from 21 to 27 November “the number of cases of flu-like syndromes increases significantly. The incidence is equal to 12.9 cases per thousand assisted (9.5 in the previous week)”. An important leap, according to the ISS.

However, Sardinia does not contribute to monitoring the phenomenon: the region gets an "unclassified" in the tables. The reason: "The incidence observed in some regions is strongly influenced by the small number of doctors and paediatricians who have sent their data at the moment". From the island the flow was so small that there is no report. It happens on this side of the Tyrrhenian Sea but also in Campania and Calabria.

The problem, however, exists: Sardinian family doctors are grappling with hundreds of calls, as are paediatricians, who work under the pressure of the very high spread of the infection among the little ones. Throughout the country "in the 0-4 age group the incidence is equal to 40.79 cases per thousand assisted".

Furthermore, the island is also late with the vaccination campaign: the accusation had come from the opposition and the then health councilor, Mario Nieddu, had rejected the accusation. But he had admitted that "many general practitioners have already started vaccinating in their outpatient clinics, regardless of the regional agreement which is still being finalized".
