A protected and extremely rare species in Italy , a black stork has been sighted in the Padrongianus ponds in Olbia . Very few pairs have been recorded in Italy's marshes and wetlands, no more than twenty. This migratory bird is a breeding species of recent immigration, with the first confirmed case in Piedmont in 1994 and subsequent colonizations, with a small number of individuals, in Calabria, Basilicata, Lazio, and Campania.

Resident in South Africa and part of Spain , probably passing through Olbia to reach its wintering grounds, in the thirty-three hectares of the city's river park, the black stork coexists with flamingos and great white herons, this typically African species, which has only been resident on the peninsula for about twenty years.

The presence of the black stork in Sardinia, linked to pristine habitats, is rarely reported and the first sighting in the Gallura capital dates back to last November, the last a few days ago.
