They attempted to force their way into the entrance door of an apartment building in the middle of the night but were caught by the Carabinieri and arrested. It happened in Carbonia, where the local station's officers, assisted by the officers of the Mobile Radio Unit of the Operational and Mobile Unit,
A forty-eight-year-old resident of Carbonia and a thirty-four-year-old from Narcao were arrested, both unemployed and already known to the police.

Upon seeing the patrol, they allegedly tried to quickly get rid of the tools, hiding them in a nearby hedge in an attempt to escape. The Carabinieri officers, however, managed to stop them and recover the equipment, which was later seized.
After the formalities at the barracks, the two were placed under house arrest, pending the validation hearing.
