The mayor of Berchidda , Andrea Nieddu, has ordered the closure of a wing of the building which houses the town's primary school. Five classes have been transferred to another sector of the building.

In recent days , school staff had reported a collapse of part of the attic in the bathrooms and part of the corridor. A video inspection confirmed the poor condition of part of the building and the closure order was signed.

Mayor Nieddu explains: «There has been a collapse of a portion of the attic where the toilets are located, and failure of the supporting structure. We ascertained longitudinal cracks spread over the entire structural apparatus of the sloping floor joists. The construction date is prior to 1950 and the construction typology appears to be the same for the entire south wing of the building. The point of collapse is the inclined floor, they have reached the end of their useful life and, therefore, demolition works and new roof construction are necessary. After the disassembly of the inclined plane, studies will be carried out to evaluate the real bearing capacity. The objectives achieved in a very short time were to guarantee the safety of the students and the continuity of the educational service: work was done to transfer 5 classes to the central block and north wing located on the first floor without having to resort to interrupting teaching activities ».
