On the one hand, the shortage of doctors persists, on the other, a figure that goes against the trend: in Sardinia, in fact, there seems to be no shortage of pediatricians of free choice. This is certified by the latest study by the Gimbe Foundation, which includes the Island among the nine Italian regions in which the ratio between the number of pediatricians and patients is considered optimal.

The news was announced by the regional health councilor, Armando Bartolazzi, who emphasized that Sardinia fully respects the parameter set by the latest national collective agreement, which sets the maximum number of patients for each pediatrician at 850. "We are in line with what was expected, and we are not currently registering any deficiencies in the service," Bartolazzi declared.

Despite the overall positive picture, the councilor does not hide the critical issues present especially in the internal areas, in particular in Nuoro, where in 32 towns there is no pediatrician. To address the problem, the Region is working on the activation of community homes and on the establishment of "very disadvantaged areas", with the aim of encouraging the presence of professionals even in the most isolated centers.

Another comforting piece of data comes from the Crea Sanità Report of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, which places Sardinia first in the South for quality of life related to health, and tenth at a national level. A result that, according to the assessor, testifies to "a reversal of the trend resulting from the work carried out by the Health Department of the Todde Council".

Bartolazzi also looks to the future: «By 2028, 62 pediatricians will retire, but we trust in the new generation of doctors who are specializing in Sardinian universities to guarantee continuity of service».
