The first submarine cable of the western branch of the Tyrrhenian Link has been laid . The link will connect Sicily and Sardinia, reaching a depth of 2,150 meters.
In just over three months , approximately 480 km of submarine cable was installed, from Fiumetorto, in the municipality of Termini Imerese (Palermo), to Terra Mala, Quartu . The installation occurred in two phases: the first, 200 km long, was completed in September; the second, 280 km long, began at the end of November.
The operations concluded off the Sardinian coast of Quartu Sant'Elena aboard the Nexans vessel Aurora.
The Tyrrhenian Link, for which Terna plans a total investment of 3.7 billion euros, includes two connections for the transfer of 500 kV direct current energy: the eastern branch between Campania and Sicily and the western branch between Sicily and Sardinia.
The infrastructure will span approximately 970 km of underwater cable , with a transmission capacity of 1,000 MW for each section. Completion is scheduled for 2028.
