A new episode of violence at the Uta prison, a few hours after the fire in a cell with six intoxicated officers and one beaten by the same inmate who started the flames.

«Another prisoner - explains Sappe, an independent prison police union - restricted to the same section and subjected to the 14-bis regime, coming from the Perugia prison where in just one month it sent dozens of policemen to the hospital, was released from the cell by tampering with the lock and in the corridor of the section, armed with a sharp stick, he violently hit the officers on duty" . One was hit in the head. " Then he also violently attacked the other policemen who in the meantime had come to the rescue of their colleagues, causing one of them to suffer a wound on his hand to which several stitches were applied."

" The wave of violence against penitentiary police personnel in Sardinia continues and nothing is being done to remedy this dramatic situation ", adds Luca Fais, regional secretary of Sappe, together with Luca Loi, manager of Sappe Cagliari.

According to the general secretary of the union, Donato Capece, «with these further serious critical events the number of policemen involved in serious incidents increases dramatically. We express the utmost solidarity and closeness to all our colleagues at the Uta prison in Cagliari: and these latest episodes must make the leaders of the Institute and the Region reflect. We need a complete reversal of direction in the management of regional prisons and we hope for a rapid intervention by this government on the continuous attacks on staff which are now the order of the day."
