In the first act (well ahead of schedule) of the Tempio municipal election campaign, Gianna Masu (60, a municipal official in Olbia) announced her candidacy for mayor and presented her civic list, "With Tempio, Common Front." The public manager, with an impressive track record in European development programs, slammed the last thirty years of political and administrative decisions in her city: "Tempio is isolated, compared to all the towns in its territory and to Olbia, which is the Shuttle of Gallura. Olbia, the city I am honored to serve. We must emerge from this isolation. We must reclaim that spirit of cohesion and call everyone to this goal." Masu presented most of the members of her list: Edi Baldino, Claudia Baltolu, Susanna Careddu, Caterina Fresi, Daniela Giua, Fortunato Lucente, Brunella Manconi, Carlo Menicucci, Marco Petita, Roberto Satta, and Maria Rosaria Spano. The list of names is not complete; the candidate from "Con Tempio, Fronte Comune" has in fact announced a wildcard who will complete the picture and "four aces" to play in the coming weeks.
Gianna Masu spoke at length in the packed Poupard Hall of the Euro-Mediterranean Institute. Among the topics covered were local healthcare, road systems, and justice. The common thread was the recovery of Tempio's territorial political role and the reinstatement of its city status. Masu was clear: "Tempio is not a village, it's a city. Period." Another topic was the revitalization of the industrial zone, with the application to join the Northeast Industrial Consortium. Gianna Masu declared that she will oppose the proliferation of wind and photovoltaic projects: "Tempio must not have the primacy of blades and panels. I've already been to Rome; there's room to renegotiate everything."
There could be four lists in the running, in addition to the one presented today: the list of the outgoing mayor, Gianni Addis, the list of Andrea Biancareddu (former mayor and former regional councilor and assessor), and the list of the publisher Fabrizio Carta.
