Beaten, humiliated, treated with do-it-yourself therapies, sedated for hours, malnourished and kept in precarious hygienic conditions. The elderly of the " Noli me tollere " rest home in Sorso had been living in a nightmare for years: they were freed by an investigation by the Public Prosecutor of Sassari , which after careful investigations led the investigating judge Sergio De Luca to issue a seizure order estimate for the structure and to remove the administrator and an employee .

In all there are six people registered in the register of suspects , with accusations ranging from ill-treatment to the abandonment of incompetent people, up to the abusive exercise of the profession.

With regard to the administrator, Maria Franca Lupino , 57, originally from Castelsardo and resident in Porto Torres, and an employee, Emanuela Gaspa , 49, from Sorso, the judge issued a 12-month suspension from the activity professional, public and private , which implies the stop to the management and contacts with elderly or non self-sufficient people. Both are accused of ill-treatment and Lupino, together with another employee, is also under investigation for abandonment of an incapable person following the death of a guest with swallowing problems : she could only ingest solid meals and died on 10 May last, suffocated by food she was fed by the assistant, who then walked off to talk on her cell phone.

The cause of death was ascertained by autopsy.

The 48 elderly people of the rest home have not been transferred and the administrative management of the facility has been leased to the mayor of Sorso, Fabrizio Demelas .

The defense attorney of the suspects, Gianmario Fois, will present to the Review Court a request for release from seizure of the rest home and cancellation of the precautionary measures ordered for Lupino and Gaspa.

On behalf of prosecutor Ermanno Cattaneo, the investigations were handled by the carabinieri of the Nas of Sassari, who through direct testimonies, environmental and telephone interceptions, video and audio, reconstructed the violence and harassment to which the elderly were subjected.
