Investigations are continuing to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the accident in Solanas , on the new Orientale , which late yesterday morning cost the lives of the worker and gardener from Settimo San Pietro Giuliano Ortu , 50 years old, and Rodolfo Monaco , 77 years old, from Rome but resident in Quartu for years.

The incident is being handled by the Carabinieri of the Quartu Mobile Radio Operations Unit and the Burcei military who responded to the scene, coordinated by Major Michele Cerri and Lieutenant Vittorio Piras, who are leading the investigation opened by the Cagliari Prosecutor's Office to clarify the dynamics of the collision and determine any responsibilities. The hypothesis is that there may have been a traffic jam.

The collision occurred between a van carrying a group of English tourists who were traveling to Villasimius and a small car carrying the two victims . After the collision, the small car was hit from behind by another car, whose occupants suffered only minor injuries. The impact ignited a fire, which spread to the surrounding vegetation and was extinguished by the intervention of several aircraft.

The Carabinieri have also collected several testimonies, and are now carefully examining the images from the Anas security cameras placed along the road. Meanwhile, there is deep mourning in Settimo and Quartu for the deaths of Ortu and Monaco, well-known and respected people.
