The first suspects are being investigated for the death of Giovanni Marchionni, the 21-year-old skipper from Bacoli, Campania, found dead on August 8, 2025, aboard a 17-meter yacht moored at the Marina di Portisco dock in Olbia.

In fact, the file opened by the Tempio Pausania Public Prosecutor's Office no longer concerns unknown persons.

Following further investigations into the boat's batteries, conducted yesterday morning by the consultant appointed by the Prosecutor's Office, the suspects were registered. Their names are currently unknown.

The prosecutor in charge of the investigation, Milena Aucone, had opened a file for manslaughter the day after the young man's body was found.

Yesterday's investigations into the batteries, the on-board electrical system and the vessel's charging systems brought to light some still unclear aspects of the affair.

During the expert assessment, which was also attended by Chief Prosecutor Gregorio Capasso from the dock, consultant Giuseppe Mangano removed the yacht's batteries, focusing his attention on them, which likely had not been properly stored . The autopsy report and the toxicological and histological tests performed on Marchionni's body, filed in recent weeks with the Tempio Pausania Prosecutor's Office, revealed that the young man from Campania's death was due to hydrogen sulfide, a powerful toxic gas that may have been inhaled after leaking from the batteries.
