Sit-in in Alghero, fishermen protest against the Park

In Alghero , the protest of small professional fishermen broke out after the ban on fishing decided by the Park Authority in the bay of Porto Conte, including the Bay of the Nymphs. In zones B and C sport and recreational fishing is allowed, to residents of the Municipality of Alghero and to non-residents, subject to the authorization of the Park. Furthermore, a cumulative daily withdrawal of up to 3 kilos per person is allowed, both on land and at sea, and for fish tourism up to 10 kilos per unit.

Yesterday the sit-in of professional fishermen, the category for which fishing represents the only source of income, who demonstrated peacefully in front of the headquarters of the Porto Conte Regional Natural Park in Tramariglio.

On display are banners and slogans: “ After 40 years of work sent away without motivation” reads “so you risk every possibility of securing an income ”. They contest the limitation to fishing in the stretch of sea of the Porto Conte bay, as required by the Implementing Regulations for the year 2022, approved by resolution of the park's Board of Directors. A provision that establishes the procedures for carrying out the activities permitted in the “Capo Caccia-Isola Piana” marine protected area, pending approval of the Implementing Regulations.
