«One of these evenings, during my almost daily walk in the pine forest of Sinnai, I noticed some people emptying bags containing food scraps and rejoicing (convinced they were doing good for the animals), being able to admire the wild boars up close (I counted three sows and eighteen cubs but other specimens could be heard around)".
The episode is narrated by Giorgio Argiolas , member and contact person for the trails of the Local CAI Gerrei Parteolla Sarrabus Group of the Cagliari Section. A now common episode that Argiolas himself condemns, also recalling that «artificial foraging in favor of some species (in particular wild boars) is considered a crime with sanctions that include a fine from 516 to 2065 euros or two months' imprisonment ».
«The reasons for this ban - says Argiolas - are mainly two: artificial foraging entails serious consequences for the animals; inappropriate food can cause them serious gastrointestinal health problems, risk of poisoning, and cause them to abandon their habitat to go to the food source. Very often this coincides with their approach to population centers, creating risks both for people and for themselves. Artificial foraging can also be used as a hunting technique, used by hunters and poachers both to capture them but often to maintain a high density of the animal population as artificial foraging of wild animals favors their reproduction in an uncontrolled manner."
