A truly special ceremony was held in Sinnai to commemorate the 111th anniversary of the founding of the 151st “Sassari” Infantry Regiment , a historic unit of the Sassari Brigade which was born in Sinnai in March 1915.
The rally took place in the square in the Sant'Isidoro district, where in 1988 the Municipality created the Piazzetta Brigata Sassari with a pink granite memorial stone to commemorate the birth of the Regiment. From here, the soldiers then departed for the port of Cagliari, crossing the town on foot.
There was great emotion among those present, especially when the names (read by retired non-commissioned officer Andrea Atzeni) of the Sinnai soldiers of the Brigade who died in the First World War echoed.
With Mayor Barbara Pusceddu, the leaders of the Sassari Brigade and the 151st Regiment, the Sassari Brigade band, representatives of the Carabinieri, the Fire Brigade, the Navy and the Air Force .
Among those present were General Stefano Scano of the Sardinia Military Command, Colonel Andrea Pigliaroli, commander of the 151st Regiment of the Sassari Brigade, and General Nicolò Manca , now retired, first commander of the Sassari Brigade.
During the ceremony, a testimony was also shared, gathered in those years by a young boy, the son of the then-sextending village sacristan, who saw the soldiers marching out from Piazza Sant'Isidoro. From there, young Sardinians also left for the front that day, 18 of whom never returned.
During the ceremony, the flag-raising was followed by the laying and blessing of the laurel wreath , then the roll call of the Fallen and the traditional soldier's prayer .
The commemoration concluded with a brief musical greeting from the Sassari Brigade Band , directed by Sergeant Major Andrea Cardia, from Sinnai.
The Brigade's band accompanied the opening and closing moments of the ceremony. There was also a poem in Sardinian by poet Ignazio Cappai on the Brigade's exploits. The ceremony concluded with a speech by Mayor Pusceddu.
