Pretrial custody in prison for a 66-year-old unemployed man against whom serious evidence has been collected in relation to repeated fires that have broken out in the countryside of Palmas Arborea .

The measurement was carried out by the staff of the Forestry Station of Oristano, together with the Investigative Nucleus of the Oristano Inspectorate.

In just one month, that of July, six fires took place in the municipal area, all of arson nature , in two locations. One of these very close to the houses whose consequences were avoided only thanks to the massive intervention of men and means of the Fire Fighting Apparatus coordinated by the Forestry Corps.

The most serious episode affected the wetland area of "Pauli Majori", of great naturalistic value, protected as an area of environmental importance and included among the areas protected by the "Natura 2000 Network" system as it plays a key role in safeguarding birds and biodiversity and inserted among the areas called "Important Bird Areas" for the stopover and nesting of numerous protected species.

Given that in recent years the area had been the subject of numerous fires, since the beginning of the fire season, the staff of the Forestry Station of Oristano has maintained a high level of attention on the area and on the entire countryside of the Municipality of Palmas Arborea .

Therefore, not only the investigative activity but also an ever-present garrison by the Forestry Corps agents, in particular with the Nucleus of Emergency Response based in Fenosu.

The investigations, coordinated and supported by the Oristano prosecutor's office, made it possible to collect numerous pieces of evidence against a 66-year-old man from Palmas Arborea, PA, against whom the prosecutor requested the precautionary measure then ordered by the investigating magistrate: custody in prison given the high risk of recurrence of the offence.

The environmental damage has yet to be assessed.
