Sennori, asbestos removal work has begun in the former school in via Mazzini

In Sennori, asbestos removal works have begun in the former school in via Mazzini. «This is a very delicate reclamation intervention , which is why we have decided to guarantee maximum transparency by constantly informing citizens about the progress of the work . We start with an open municipal council to which I truly invite the entire population and bodies involved, and during which we will provide all the information on how the construction site will be set up and function, on the reclamation and disposal operations - declared the mayor Nicola Sassu -. Once the works have started we will continue to inform the population on the status of the works. We have also installed a LED wall, a large LED screen, in the Municipality garden in via Roma, through which we will keep citizens updated with all the information regarding the analyzes carried out in the air, the safety parameters, and the progress of the construction site during asbestos removal operations".

The building was built in 1974 according to a prefabrication construction system called "Salvit" in elements containing asbestos, and was closed by the mayor himself in 2017. The classes were located in other school buildings in the town and the Municipality awarded a regional loan of 3 million 500 thousand euros to definitively reclaim the area.

The interventions will be made known during an open municipal council in which all citizens and representatives of the public and private bodies involved are invited to participate, and which will take place on Monday 18 September at 4pm.

A public tender has been announced and awarded to the company Verde Vita srl of Sassari, which will now carry out the works. The former school will be demolished following a strict safety protocol to avoid any environmental and public health problems, as well as the workers involved in the works. The material resulting from the demolition will be disposed of following the legal procedures.

The completely reclaimed area will be the subject of a subsequent redevelopment intervention: the municipal administration plans to create a park on that site to connect with the nearby green areas which will also be the subject of redevelopment.
