Sea urchin fishing has officially reopened in Sardinia. The regional councilor for agriculture, Valeria Satta, has signed the decree that from today, December 14, gives the green light to the harvest by professional fishermen. The season will close on April 30 and there are 90 working days in this period.

Thus restarts an activity that had been suspended for three years by the regional council, then authorized again, by law, after the protests of the insiders , who had refused to participate in the paid monitoring program of the sea conditions: a kind of socially useful work proposed with a ban from Agris, rejected on the whole line.

The provision of the exponent of the Giunta Solinas imposes numerous prescriptions on times, methods and quantities.

No fishing on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays (from Monday to Wednesday in the maritime district of Porto Torres). The collection of the specimens and the unloading operations are allowed only from 6 to 13 : those who are late must notify the Harbor Master's Office.

Each fisherman will be able to bring a maximum of 1000 sea urchins a day (2000 if there is a helper) and will have to keep a register of the withdrawals.

Furthermore , "it is forbidden to harvest using tools towed by boat - which cannot be used or kept on board - or even by hand using mechanical means (iron tools), including rakes".

With the start of fishing in Cagliari, the kiosks for sale in Su Siccu will also return: the Municipality's tender for the assignment of three stations expired today.
