Schools in Sardinia will remain closed tomorrow and Saturday, and lessons will resume on Monday 10 January in order to carry out a "targeted screening of the student population" on closing days. The order signed by the President of the Region, Christian Solinas, was issued late yesterday evening at the end of a day in which the mayors of various Sardinian municipalities have adopted similar measures.

The goal of the postponement is to return to class safely after the Christmas holidays, a period in which there have been numerous cases of contagion from Covid-19, especially among young people and the very young, thanks to the spread of the Omicron variant.

The local health and social organizations of the Region, the document continues, "in the respective areas of competence, must take care of the organization of a screening campaign aimed at the student population, through adequate tests with high specificity and sensitivity, to be carried out in the days preceding the regular resumption of teaching activities ".

The provision, it is emphasized, was taken "in conjunction with the operational teams of the Extraordinary Commissioner for the Covid-19 emergency, with the Anci Sardegna and with the Regional School Office".

COORDINATION - In the morning, the Coordination of the Presidents of the Council of Club and of the Institute of the Region of Sardinia, issued a note in which it confirms to accept the ordinance of the governor who accepts "even if only in part" the proposals formulated by the Coordination itself last January 2 and hopes that the screening will be carried out on "the entire school population and therefore that the two days of closure are effectively used for the deliberate purposes and not to extend the Christmas holidays by two days".

The press release also invites, when there are less than 24 hours from the start of operations, to immediately set the organizational machine in motion: “We hope that any problems that may arise will not be unloaded on the mayors and school managers. This coordination will give the maximum collaboration where necessary to make the screening activity as easy as possible. We will continue to monitor the situation in the hope that the choice of the Sardinia Region will really allow the whole school world to get in line "to be able to re-enter the classrooms" safely ".
