The documents that speak of the Gremi , the guilds of arts and crafts, are 700 years of history of the city of Sassari. This is why it is important to bring together all the sources and writings in order to have a database that can later be put online after digitization.

This morning in the Sala Giunta of Palazzo Ducale the protocol establishing the Documentation Center for the history of the Gremi and the Candelieri was signed , which in 2013 UNESCO declared intangible cultural heritage of humanity .

The mayor Nanni Campus , the archbishop Gianfranco Saba and the president of the Intergremio Fabio Madau , in the presence of the councilor Laura Useri and the head of the municipal historical archive Carla Merella , signed the protocol. The main objective of the project is to create an integrated system of archival description, digitization of sources and online consultation, guaranteeing the conservation of documents in their institutional locations without therefore being physically moved. The Municipality of Sassari, coordinator with organizational functions, makes available the high professionalism and spaces of the Municipal Historical Archive as headquarters for the Documentation Center and for the coordination of the activities of realisation, promotion and valorisation of the project.

A series of events will also be organized to promote the activities of the Documentation and In-depth Study Center on issues related to the Candelieri and the Gremi. The management of the Documentation Center will be coordinated by a steering committee made up of 3 representatives, one for each signatory body, and will last for 3 years from the entry into force of the Protocol.
