Carles Puigdemont, the former president of Catalonia arrested at Alghero airport in application of the European arrest warrant issued at the request of Madrid, which considers him one of the responsible for the "attempt at secession" of the Barcelona region from the Spain through the 2017 referendum.

The judge of the Court of Appeal of Sassari, Plinia Azzena, ruled that the arrest of the Catalan leader at the "Riviera del Corallo" airport is not illegal, but, also accepting the request to that effect from pg Gabriella Pintus, Azzena herself has established that there is no reason to apply any precautionary measures against him.

Puigdemont then left the Bancali prison, but the affair - as confirmed by his lawyer Marras - does not end.

The court must in fact decide on the extradition required by the Spanish justice. Puigdemont is free to move and leave, but the hearing on his case has been set for 4 October and will be held in Sardinia.

The former Catalan president came out of the penitentiary ( THE VIDEO ), surrounded by a crowd of reporters and accompanied by the president of the Sardinia Region, Christian Solinas, and the president of the Regional Council, Michele Pais, who both arrived in Sassari to express their closeness to the Barcelona leader.

Also visiting the Catalan independence leader was the Sardist senator Carlo Doria, according to whom "Puigdemont is undoubtedly a political prisoner".
