She is 67 years old, 46 of which have been spent working in Sassari in the health company now called Aou. Her name is Mariangela Campus, a member of the Uil territorial secretariat with responsibility for health, and also the record woman for preferences in the votes for the Representatives of the Union (RSU), which are held every three years.
Recently confirmed to be the most popular, having received, in the recent consultations, 275 preferences, distancing the second place, from Cisl, by over a hundred.
"I started in 1998," she says, "as the most voted on my list and since 2001 I have been the most voted of all." How do you explain such assiduous loyalty of the voters? "With the activities I carry out," says Campus, "always to protect workers and always giving truthful answers."
At the University Hospital Trust, she works as a coordinator of the morgue, sterilization and outpatient clinic services: «When I finish my shift, I go to the UIL headquarters and start working as a trade unionist». A constant commitment that has been rewarded for some time. «Your office», a voter acknowledges, «has become a precious point of reference, a door that is always open for colleagues who are sometimes disoriented, or simply in need of being welcomed, listened to and not only that, also for citizens looking for answers».
What drives her into union activity is her passion and the need to fight against injustice, a battle she has decided to carry on. "The company asked me to keep me in service," she says, "and I decided to accept, even though I am the oldest nurse at AOU, because there are so many problems in healthcare, from services to visits to exams."
She, born in Bonorva, began working in the late 70s when the current AOU was called Ospedali riuniti di Sassari. "The difference? Back then there was much more humanity and unfortunately, a little bit of it has been lost." The impression is that younger workers no longer believe in unions as they once did. "Maybe there is resignation," she reflects, "maybe they have other interests. It seems to me that they no longer want to fight." In 2027, the three-year term as RSU will expire. Will she run again? "No, this is the last round."
