Sassari in mourning for Gavinuccio Canu, the memory of his musician friends

“Playing with Gavinuccio Canu has always been like playing football with Totti and being coached by Mourinho”. Francesco Sanna really loved his musician friend, found lifeless Sunday afternoon in Sassari, a few meters from the Agenzia delle Entrate.
At the Vecchio Mulino the last concert he had seen them play together. Thirty years of friendship, made up of esteem and respect. Francesco drummer, Gavinuccio voice and guitar. “He involved me when he needed a slightly more rock sound - says Francesco - he called me brother of electronic drums”.
After his disappearance he had hoped for a happy ending and was activated because he wanted to find him. "The promises are kept and the most important we have kept - said Francesco -, but I hoped until that tearing moment to find him alive".
After eleven days of research, the corpse of Gavinuccio Canu, the 56-year-old artist from Sassari, who died on Tuesday 8 February, was found hidden among the shrubs, the green area surrounding Piazzale Giovanni Falcone. The dog Freccia smelled something and the owner Mariangela Amadu, one of the volunteers involved in the research, followed him into the trees. Then the bitter discovery. Friends and relatives came, incredulous and desperate. They had mobilized since the first day of the disappearance but without any real coordination.
“Yesterday the searches were intensified thanks to our appeal - explains Giovanni Salis, a friend of Gavinuccio -, welcomed by a group of former volunteer police officers who proposed to coordinate us. Then the organization into teams and the use of drones with the involvement of the police ”.
At 15.30 the discovery. Lying on his back he seemed to be asleep, dressed like the day of the disappearance, one hand on his chest, one shoe close to his body, along with his wallet and an MP3 player. It is thought of as an extreme gesture, but illness is not excluded. It will be the necropsy report, entrusted to the coroner Salvatore Lorenzoni, to ascertain the cause of death.
