The funeral chapel in memory of Marco Fumi, former mayor of the city from 1988 to 1990, was set up this morning in Sassari, at Palazzo Ducale. Many people have already gone to Sala Duce where the coffin will remain until 3:15 p.m. Fumi passed away yesterday at the age of 83 after a life spent as a teacher and school principal, from 1960 to 2006, and as a politician first with the socialists and finally with the PD.

"He was a man, cultured, lucid and very intelligent," comments Giacomo Spissu, president of the Fondazione di Sardegna and political companion of Fumi. " A point of reference for many. It is a great loss for Sassari ." Fumi had assumed the role of councilor for Urban Planning in the period 1981-88 until becoming the first tenant of Palazzo Ducale.

“He left a great legacy,” recalls Franco Borghetto, who succeeded him as mayor. “The vision of a modern, metropolitan city comes from him. He was already talking about urban regeneration back then.” Everyone remembers his generosity and tenacity both as a pedagogue and in politics . “For me, he was also a man of the school, an appreciated educator and an excellent manager as well as a great friend,” Spissu emphasizes. “He was very open to dialogue and was able to be generous with everyone,” adds Borghetto.
