The Metropolitan Conference made its debut today at the Provincial Palace in Sassari, about a week after the council meeting.
The quorum of mayors in the Sala Sciuti was approximately 84%, with 36 of the 66 mayors in attendance.
“I would have liked,” declared the mayor of the Metropolitan City, Giuseppe Mascia, “for all the municipal administrations to be present.”
A call for shared understanding in light of the challenges facing the institution, including drafting the Strategic Plan for 2028-35 and attempting to tap the remaining resources from the Development and Cohesion Fund for 2021-27, in addition to the funds from the Metropolitan Plan. The oft-emphasized priorities of schools, transportation, and infrastructure, among others, will guide the institution's decisions to bridge the gap with the rest of the island. The first measure, passed unanimously, concerned the amendment to the statute, which will allow the mayor to assign responsibilities for the Metropolitan City to councilors. This is a necessity given the complex task that will involve a vast territory like northwest Sardinia.
