Crackdown by the local police of Sassari against motorists who violate the speed limits.

From 1 December the municipal administration and the brigade command have decided to intensify speed controls along the roads of the municipal area, positioning telelaser stations also along the Sassari-Sorso , the state road 200, sadly known for the numerous accidents .

«The choice – explains a note – is dictated by the desire to preserve the safety of users, especially the most fragile groups. Until 15 January, therefore, intensified checks on the provincial road 18 of Bancali, the SP 42 in Campanedda, via De Martini, via Domenico Millelire, vi Prati, via Predda Niedda, via Buddi Buddi, viale Porto Torres and the former state road 131 in Ottava, in addition to the Sassari-Sorso route. This was made possible thanks to an agreement with Anas, which authorized the installation of signs near the San Camillo health facility. The checks will be both day and night and reinforced on weekends. Furthermore, during the Christmas holidays, further actions will be promoted aimed at strengthening road safety in our area".

«An operation - continues the Command - also in the name of transparency , which aims to focus on prevention to stem one of the main causes of road accidents; in fact, through the communication of the roads where speed checks will be carried out, the aim is to contain this phenomenon which has also taken on a worrying dimension on the roads of the municipal area. The checks are carried out on the roads that are identified taking into account the level of accidents that emerge from the statistics processed annually by the Command and on the basis of assessments related to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Two objectives are pursued: to raise awareness of the importance of compliance with the rules aimed at preserving road traffic safety; create awareness in the driver of having violated the speed limits as a result of the immediate notification of the offence: the "telelaser" device used allows the driver who violates the speed limits to be stopped at which the illegal conduct is immediately contested».

The data on accidents recorded in 2022, an increase compared to the previous year, underlie the intensification of controls.

In eleven months, the local police of Sassari has in fact detected one thousand one hundred and eleven road accidents compared to 1,015 detected in all of 2021 in which there was already a significant growth in claims compared to previous years. In the first eleven months of 2022, speed controls recorded speed limits being exceeded by more than 10 km/h but not more than 40 km/h in 572 cases, more than 40 km/h but not more than 60 km/h in 43 and more than 60 km/h 3 times, for a total of 618 violations, with 46 suspensions of licenses.
