Sardinians are increasingly better at separating waste, but increasingly harassed: in many municipalities in Southern Sardinia, despite good waste collection results, the Tari tax is rising and protests are pouring in.

What impacts bills aren't so much disposal costs (at Tecnocasic in Macchiareddu, burning a ton of garbage costs €199.99, while disposing of one at the Villacidro Industrial Consortium landfill costs €116.68), but management costs , which include fuel consumption and ancillary services like automatic street sweeping. In short: tell me what contract you're working for, and I'll tell you how much you spend.

We try to explore the reasons for this with a multi-part investigation : the first in Unione Sarda on newsstands Sunday 2 November and in the digital edition on the Unione Digital app.
