Sardinia is confirmed as the "Marijuana Island". This is certified by the annual report to Parliament on the phenomenon of drug addiction in Italy, delivered in July by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

The data are consolidated and refer to 2022: in that year, over 15 tons of drugs were seized in this part of the Tyrrhenian Sea (almost all of them were cannabis), with a rate of 1,248.3 kilos per 100,000 inhabitants aged between 15 and 74 . The second highest figure in Italy: Calabria is in worse shape, even if only slightly.

«The marijuana-related anti-drug operations carried out in the island regions», the dossier reads, «equal to 19% of those carried out at a national level, have led to the seizure of over 15 tons of narcotic substance (intercepted almost exclusively in Sardinia) , corresponding to 46% of the total quantity intercepted in Italy". 35,607 marijuana plants were discovered: 17% of the Italian total.

Instead, 128 kilos of cocaine were intercepted (10 for every 100,000 inhabitants, well below the national average which stands at 59). On the other hand, just 6.8 kilos of heroin intercepted by the police. In the whole country there were 548.08.
