If the Italian economy grew by 0.26% in the third quarter, on the island the increase was just 0.16%. However, it guarantees a slightly higher figure in the first nine months of the year: +0.66% compared to the national average of +0.60%. The Sassari Chamber of Commerce has processed the data for the third quarter and the first nine months.

There are 145,061 active businesses, around a thousand fewer than in September 2022. Two sectors above all influence the numbers downwards: agriculture loses over 600 businesses and commerce as many as 785.

The varied world of services smiles, as it has for some time now. With almost 20% of total businesses, this sector presented just under 27 thousand initiatives at the end of September, 565 more than in the same month of 2022. The expansion is driven in particular by professional and scientific activities (+149 units), those of rental and business services (+141) and real estate (+119).

The island's data is driven by Northern Sardinia, in particular Gallura: in the third quarter +0.28% as the balance between registrations and closures of businesses. The province of Cagliari has 0.13%, that of Nuoro 0.11% while Oristano is almost balanced: + 0.03%.

The president of the Sassari Chamber of Commerce, Stefano Visconti, comments: « It was almost obvious to expect this decline which was already being recorded in the previous months. However, the economic system of the island and of northern Sardinia in particular, despite everything, is demonstrating a fair amount of resilience with the chronic negativity of sectors that continue to suffer."
