For the murder of Vincenzo Beniamino Marongiu, various arrest warrants were notified tonight in Ogliastra to at least six people, including Sandro Arzu, arrested yesterday after two years in which he was believed to have died in an ambush.

The arrest warrants were issued at the height of the investigations by the Lanusei Carabinieri company and the Nuoro investigative unit.

Marongiu, 52, was killed on July 9 with nine gunshots in Piazza Roma in Arzana. A real execution: the coup de grace to the temple was fired at close range when the victim was already on the ground.

The hitmen had chased Marongiu as he left the bar where he had bought some take-away coffees. He tried to escape but in vain: a barrage of bullets hit his body until the final blow.

The 52-year-old was convicted in 1997 for stealing bombs and military explosives from the Army depot in Campomela. In 2016 he was caught with three other accomplices in an abandoned farmhouse in Arzana with 7.5 kilos of marijuana. The last arrest was in 2018 on charges of being the leader of a gang active in drug and weapons trafficking, both civilian and military, as well as in the trade of archaeological finds and stolen jewelry.
