She could have chosen any destination in the world for a well-deserved vacation, but instead she decided to stay "home." A choice of heart, even more than of sport. Alessia Orro wanted to once again give back to her homeland what volleyball has given her, organizing, together with Sun Volley and the Su Nuraghe sports center in San Vero Milis, the second edition of the tournament named after her.
Company president Giampaolo Enna and coaches Paola Panico and Francesco Meloni couldn't hide their excitement: "It all stems from a special and far from obvious choice. Alessia has decided to dedicate her time, energy, and enthusiasm to her island, creating something unique for the area, for the young people, and for the families who will share this day with us."
Alessia, smiling and helpful as ever, explains her motivation simply. " I felt the need to give Sardinia something that was missing. An opportunity to bring joy and happiness to so many girls and boys, sharing important moments of passion for volleyball." As she speaks, it's clear that success hasn't changed her: the same humility, kindness, and authenticity as always.
She describes her career almost like a fairytale. "I feel like I was born with a ball in my hands. My mom was a coach and she didn't give me any concessions: if necessary, she'd leave me on the bench. Then the number 8 jersey, my lifelong one, and the coach who decided I'd become a setter."
A story the children in attendance listened to with admiration. And the conversation with the little ones was one of the most moving moments of the event's presentation evening. Also in attendance were the regional president of the Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV), Roberto Puddu, the president of the Central Sardinia Territorial Committee, Mauro Marras, and the mayors of Narbolia and San Vero Milis, Gian Giuseppe Vargiu and Luigi Tedeschi. It was he who described Alessia as "an ambassador of peace who, with a smile plastered on her face at every match and event, always conveys a positive message." This is the same message she intends to convey on Friday, May 22nd, by involving nearly 300 young athletes in beach volleyball and Volleyball S3, with the littlest ones participating in an experience they will remember for a long time.
