Someone had put it up for sale on a numismatic auction site in Milan. The Pro Loco of Samassi identified it and, through a popular collection organized among the citizens, recovered it.

We are talking about the Silver Medal for Civil Valor which was awarded in 1899 by the King of Italy to the carabiniere Giampietro Miscali, at the time in service at the Samassi Royal Carabinieri Station, protagonist together with his colleagues in numerous rescues of people who risked to drown in the floods caused by the devastating flood that hit the Sardinian town on November 17, 1898.

The precious heirloom will be returned to citizenship during a solemn ceremony of those tragic events - still remembered as "S'annu de s'unda" - scheduled for Saturday 20 November, right in Samassi in Piazza San Geminiano.
