A merchant vessel flying the Panama flag was stopped in the port of Oristano by the Coast Guard for reasons related to navigational safety.

The intervention took place on Wednesday by the specialized Port State Control team which inspected the ship engaged in commercial operations at the industrial port.

The shutdown - the fourth in the last six months in the port of Oristano - came at the end of the activities related to the constant verification of the safety conditions, the living and working conditions of the embarked crews as well as the protection of the marine environment from pollution.

The inspection involved various parts of the merchant vessel: the bridge, the engine room, the wheelhouse, the spaces used by the crew as well as the checks on the procedures to follow in the event of security incidents on board. Overall, more than 10 deficiencies related to non-compliance with international regulations were identified , such as, for example, the Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL).

The irregularities have been resolved and the unit has been inspected again: yesterday evening the men of the Coast Guard authorized the ship to leave again.
