The seventh appointment of Saboris Antigus stops in Guasila, a town nestled among golden hills of wheat, a treasure chest of important traditions linked to the Marian faith, ancient recipes, important archaeological sites and, last but not least, a place of cultural meetings and a festival , combined with the literary prize, dedicated to the memory of the Guasilian anthropologist and intellectual Giulio Angioni: the Elsewhere Festival.
Guasila currently has around 2700 inhabitants who - on Friday 8 December - will open the doors of their homes, squares, churches, monuments and archaeological sites to welcome the curious in a celebration made up of arts and crafts, culinary traditions in the ancient cereal-growing territory of Sardinia. The food and wine event aims to raise awareness of the material and immaterial beauties of the village.
The program of the event opens with the Holy Mass in the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of the Assumption, and will be a good opportunity to visit one of the symbols of the town. A majestic building, to be placed at the top of the list of the most important monuments of the island: it was in fact designed by Gaetano Cima in 1839 and is positioned in a high and strategic point so that it can be seen kilometers away by the visitor who arrives in Trexenta. In one of the chapels of the church you can admire the Sleeping Virgin, the reclining Madonna. On 13, 14 and 15 August in Guasila, which has an ancient tradition of Marian devotion, the Blessed Virgin of the Assumption is celebrated. A series of rites and rituals are performed on those days by the devotees, and Saboris Antigus will be an opportunity to learn about the tradition behind "sa festa manna" as it is known and called in Guasila.
There are countless traditions handed down from generation to generation, like a precious thread that binds families, like a legacy that guarantees a better future because it has laid solid roots in the past. Among the many that the visitor will discover during Saboris Antigus there are the Heifer Hunt (sa Cassa de s'Acchixedda), the Palio, the celebrations for the Virgin of Itria on the Monday and Tuesday following Pentecost, and many legends linked to the territory and the tasty recipes of the Sardinian culinary tradition.
Furthermore, for over seven years, uniting the whole community in a heartfelt effort has been the objective of the success of the event dedicated to Giulio Angioni, an important Sardinian intellectual born in Guasila. The Elsewhere Festival - Giulio Angioni Literary Prize is an important cultural event not only for Guasila and all of Trexenta, but for the entire island. Over time the event has grown and has seen more and more guests of regional and national caliber participate, and its prize has been expanded to include more sections: published and unpublished fiction, poetry, prize for graduates. The town's literary park is dedicated to Giulio Angioni, with works of art that the visitor can admire along the streets of the village, also on the occasion of Saboris Antigus.
Guasila is also a center rich in history and culture since ancient times, as evidenced by the various Nuragic agglomerations and the Domus de Janas. The Saboris Antigus program includes a visit to the evocative "Riu sa mela" Domus. Saboris Antigus will also give visitors the ancient flavors of this land, through tastings and the direct sale of zero-mile products. There are several refreshment points open, and cooking workshops in which you can participate.
