Migrants disembark directly for Cagliari: Twelve arrested at Su Siccu
They were intercepted by the police and will be transferred to Monastir.From North Africa to Cagliari , direct line. Twelve migrants were stopped by police in the Su Siccu pine forest, on Via Caboto, a few minutes after disembarking in the early afternoon.
The nationalities of those detained are currently unknown; identification procedures are ongoing. The migrants, all men and in good health, will be transferred to the Monastir reception center .
Today's arrival in Cagliari is the latest in a series of landings that have occurred over the past two days on the coasts of southern Sardinia. According to police sources , 166 migrants arrived between the afternoon of August 31st and last night.
Arrivals in Sardinia were also discussed yesterday during an inspection of the extraordinary reception center and hotspot in Monastir by a delegation of representatives from the Five Star Movement and the Anip Italia Sicura union.
Around 700 people were housed here, a number exceeding the nominal capacity of 300. These numbers had prompted Mayor Paola Ugas to raise her voice at the end of August, declaring that overcrowding "cannot be the norm."
