No "visual phenomenon of marine pollution" in Piscinas but checks will continue in more depth in the coming days.

The Port Authority carried out the first surveys on the river of red mud that invaded the beach in the municipality of Arbus «in order to verify the presence of marine pollution phenomena due to the proximity of the Irvi river». Which flows into that stretch of sea and brought with it the residues of the processing of the mines that have been abandoned for 40 years now and never reclaimed .

From the outcome of the analyses, carried out «through a patrol on land with employed personnel and through a sea patrol with the own employed naval unit M/V CP 728, no visual phenomena of marine pollution were detected».

But it doesn't end there: «The monitoring activity in the area will continue by the staff of this Command, under the direct coordination of the Maritime Directorate of Cagliari». "A joint activity with ARPAS is planned for next Monday in order to carry out sampling of the waters in front of the Piscinas beach" .

Since Thursday, the jewel beach of the Costa Verde has been invaded by a red river which "is not a surprise", according to the WWF. What is surprising is that the problem "becomes worthy of attention only when the impact is evident and reveals its full severity". Meanwhile, the shocking video shot by a resident is making the rounds on social media and in the main newspapers, including national ones. The mayor of Arbus is worried and, on the pages of L'Unione Sarda, defines it as "shameful" to have that video released on social media, creating "negative publicity that discourages tourists".

«A sad fate – states Paolo Salis – every year the tourist season is tainted by events that are bad for our territory». That river, he specifies, «does not all come from the mine wells, the majority comes from the nearby Donegani dam, from where it was deliberately released from the relief valve at the bottom of the structure, in compliance with the rules of the Civil Engineers which requires the maintenance of a certain level of the reservoir".
