A 104-meter-long Portuguese-flagged vessel was stopped in the commercial port of Oristano.

The vessel, which arrived from Barcelona loaded with clinker (i.e. bricks made from clay and limestone, for the production of Portland cement), was inspected by personnel from the Oristano Port Authority authorised by Port State Control.

Objective of the inspection: to verify the safety conditions of the facilities and the validity of the certificates and the preparation of the crew.

«During the inspection, - explains a note from the Coast Guard - which lasted the whole day, 24 serious deficiencies were found regarding the efficiency of the on-board systems and emergency equipment (including the inefficiency of the winches on the deck used for manoeuvring the anchors and the inoperability of the system for filtering oily bilge water), as well as critical issues related to the living conditions on board

of the crew."

For this reason, the ship was immediately "detained" in port until the minimum safety standards were restored to be able to resume navigation.

According to the Coast Guard, this is the twelfth ship stopped in the port of Oristano because it does not have the necessary requirements for navigation.
