One million and 450 thousand euros to restore security and dignity to one of the symbols of Sassari: the Church of Santa Maria di Betlem, the final destination of the Descent of the Candlesticks.
The works will start next week and are expected to last 540 days. The company RTI Solinas Salvatore srl (Sassari) & Usai Carlo (Rome) and the designer, the architect Angelo Mattia, take care of it.
The building interventions to be carried out in the monumental complex of Santa Maria di Betlem are aimed at the conservation and safety of the church and bell tower structures.
The temple will be subject to consolidation activities that will affect various portions and macro-elements that together will contribute to mitigate the vulnerabilities found and increase the safety level of the structure.
Last month the Municipality of Sassari obtained an additional regional funding, from the Department of Cultural Heritage, of 340 thousand euros. Thanks to these funds it will be possible to proceed with an assignment to the same company, already foreseen in the tender, for a project to complete the interior of the church, in particular the restoration of the plaster of the dome and the vaults as well as the safety of the bell tower, excluded from the first contract due to lack of funding.
