The infamous passion for studying in the archives and the frenzied curiosity to know more about the past of his ancestors led Giorgio Malloci to carry out a long work of research of his distant relatives, in which the main theme was the genesis of the surname he bears . His project began about twenty years ago. A research born to satisfy a curiosity: both of his parents had the same surname . “I wanted to know if they had a common ancestor and therefore were somehow related,” says Malloci.

He has painstakingly investigated completing the genealogy of Lunamatrona 's blood relatives over the past 400 years. The result is a 10 meter long family tree . The Lunamatrona Malloci all derive from the same stock. A very distant blood bond even for his 7-generation parents.

Once the research in Lunamatrona was finished, the scholar went further and analyzed the district: “I had noticed that many weddings were celebrated outside the town, in Ussaramanna, Ollastra, Usellus, Sanluri. So I looked in the diocesan archives of Cagliari, Ales, Oristano and in the historical archive of Cagliari and I discovered that all the Malloci of Campidano and Marmilla can be gathered in a single 12 meter long family tree with 3000 names ". During the research in the historical archive of Oristano, then, he discovered another branch that brings together the bearers of that surname from Oristano upwards. “My dream would be to correlate these branches and that is why I have extended my research in the Spanish archives to Barcelona , as it is data prior to 1600”, he specifies. In fact, when the Spaniards left Sardinia, they most likely brought the archives with them as well.

A passion, his, which sees him as the architect of searches on other surnames present in Lunamatrona: the Setzu, the Garau, the Casu, the Floris, the Usai and the Carruciu. “Reading history through the archives has an advantage because it allows us to discover how we lived in the past, I would like to see many young people become passionate about these researches and fill the historical archives”, he concludes.

The results of his studies were presented at Lunamatrona and it was a success. Now there are many countries that would like to host the Malloci family trees.
