The escape had been organized down to the smallest detail but the Gargano mafia boss Marco Raduano, who escaped from Nuoro prison on February 24, 2023, when he lowered himself with a sheet from the perimeter wall of the Badu 'e Carros prison, did not find the courier who was supposed to pick him up and take him off the island.

His abettor, Daniele Peron from Mestre, sent to Nuoro by Marco Rinaldi, a relative of Raduano, to help him escape, had been stopped shortly before at a roadblock near the prison by a checkpoint arranged by the Nuoro police chief Alfonso Polverino.

A problem that forced him to leave and leave again that same evening by ship for home.

Both Peron and Rinaldi ended up in handcuffs , in the investigation conducted by the prosecutor of the Cagliari DDA Danilo Tronci, among the 14 people arrested between Sardinia, Puglia, Veneto and Corsica , on charges of personal aiding and abetting and procuring breach of sentence aggravated by the mafia facilitation of the Foggia clan of Raduano.

The Sardinian District Anti-Mafia Directorate worked in conjunction with the Bari DDA and with the coordination of the District Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Directorate, and the operation led to a total of 21 arrests : in addition to the 14 people arrested , seven other precautionary measures were carried out by the Bari DDA in a branch of the investigation that unmasked a drug trafficking and dealing network.

Also in prison are the prison officer of Nuoro Salvatore Deledda , the Corsican Courbery Cedric, Elio, Mauro and Antonio Gusinu of Padru, Antonio Mangia and Pietro Antonio Tolu of Orune, Martino Contu and Massimiliano Demontis of Bitti, two other Corsicans, Gerom Reggetti and Tommaso Ruffert, and Marco Furfaro, from Veneto.

It was precisely the arrest of Daniele Peron in Nuoro that aroused suspicion among the investigators of Nuoro who, thanks to him, traced Rinaldi and then the entire gang of Foggiani. On the evening of the escape, Raduano, who had a cell phone with him, had to revise his plans, using Sardinian accomplices who took him to Bitti for a few days and then 4 months in a tent in the countryside of Padru before leaving for Corsica, then to Spain, from where - after the arrest of his right-hand man Gianluigi Troiano - he returned to Corsica where he was arrested last February.
