A barrage of requests for sentences ranging from 5 to 7 years in prison have been solicited by the public prosecutor Giangiacomo Pilia against nine defendants of Bosnian origin accused of environmental disaster after the investigation into the burning of waste in nearby illegal dumps at the Roma camp on Statale 554, at the gates of Cagliari.

For several years, in the area located near the Civil Motorization, waste of all kinds was set on fire, invading the districts of Mulinu Becciu and San Michele with smoke and dioxin.

On 25 November 2016, at the request of the prosecutor Pilia, the Court seized the Roma camp and some vans used to transport the garbage.

The investigation conducted by the Noe of the Carabinieri had ended with the possible crimes of abandonment, collection, illicit management of waste, including special and dangerous waste, pollution and environmental disaster . The civil parties also spoke at the hearing, including the Legal Intervention Group, the environmental association which has repeatedly denounced the burning of waste, the risks of pollution and damage to the inhabitants of the area and for the environment.

On May 18 the word will pass to the defense, then the panel of the second criminal section of the Cagliari court will retire to the council chamber for the sentence.
