A new demonstration is underway in Sardinia against the RWM arms factory in Domusnovas. On Friday, November 7th, at 6:00 PM, outside the Regional Council building on Via Roma, the Sardinian Committee for Solidarity with Palestine and the Sardinia-Palestine Friendship Association will take to the streets to demand that President Alessandra Todde "make the right choice" and block the expansion of the plant.
The appeal comes just days after the TAR ruling upheld RWM's appeal against the Sardinia Region, setting a sixty-day ultimatum for a new ruling on the authorization for the expansion works.
The movement calls the decision "shameful" and "yet another slap in the face to Sardinia," accusing the state of "sacrificing our land on the altar of war and exploitation."
RWM, a German company based in Domusnovas, produces bombs and explosive devices exported to several countries, including Saudi Arabia.
On October 8, the company announced an expansion of drone production, in collaboration with the Israeli company UVision Air Ltd., a partner of the Israeli military.
"What is being built on our land contributes to the destruction of other lives," denounce the organizers, who link Sardinian military production to the bombing of the Palestinian population.
The protest also targets the regional president. The organizers recall Todde's words, who previously described Sardinia as "a land of peace and solidarity" when presenting the Sardinia Peace Island project. Now they are demanding consistency: "Prove that these weren't just empty words," they write, "and that Sardinia truly wants to play an active role in building peace."
