Shortage of doctors, grueling staff shifts and distressed wards at San Francesco di Nuoro.

An alarming situation that today led the Nas carabinieri to an inspection visit in the hospital wards , at the request of the Sardinian parliamentarian Mara Lapia.

“The Nas are checking the shifts and rests of the medical and health personnel who work in the departments of Geriatrics, Medicine, Nefro-Dialysis and in the emergency room - explained Lapia -. Only three doctors remained on duty in the latter ward, despite 78 accesses in the last 24 hours . A patient was hospitalized in yellow code on July 13, this morning he was still there, with him 35 other patients waiting to be examined and as if that weren't enough, today the Orthopedics ward was also closed ".

The imminent closure of the emergency room, announced in recent days by the deputy, was however denied by the manager of the Asl of Nuoro Paolo Cannas.

"Here the situation remains dramatic - reiterates the exponent of the Democratic Center -, today there are only two doctors, one of whom is a specialist and an unstructured specialist and tomorrow the department will remain open only because the Sassari Aou lends us a professional" .

On workloads instead: "With the Nas we have verified that there are overruns with shifts that exceed 18 hours , a condition that does not guarantee safety for operators and patients, often hospitalized in the corridors".

In the Dialysis ward, adds Lapia, “we found fragile, transplanted and immunosuppressed patients in dangerous promiscuity with other patients who are even waiting for the molecular swab ”. And all this, he accuses, "takes place in the silence of the Region which, repeatedly requested, has never responded with concrete actions".
