«Never confuse an "I'm tired" with an "I give up", because a person, even if tired, can keep trying». Massimo Steri wrote it just a month ago from his Facebook account, aware that the day would soon come when the disease would take over.

That day arrived yesterday and now the community of San Sperate mourns its fellow citizen. A former policeman, he had turned 60 on May 25, but had been battling a tumor for some time that had now spread to his liver, lungs and spine. He told his story and his "battle" (a term he himself used) punctually on social media. A story, his, which on several occasions contained personal thoughts, fears and reflections.

"I decided to tell my story to be of help to those who are going through this path and to those who care for a cancer patient , because being close to a cancer patient is not always so obvious". The funeral is scheduled for tomorrow, Friday 2 June, at 3.30 pm, in the parish of San Sperate.
