Adolescent distress represents one of the greatest social and educational challenges. Behind the difficulties of many young men and women are often families facing complex journeys and who, not infrequently, experience their own distress alone.

To reflect on this phenomenon and the responsibilities of institutions, schools, services, and communities, the Epoché association is organizing a public meeting "Fragile Adolescents: The Loneliness of Families," scheduled for Wednesday, September 23, at 5:00 PM in the Fondazione di Sardegna Hall in Cagliari.

The event will also be an opportunity to publicly present the Epoché association, founded out of the belief that educating and nurturing new generations is a collective responsibility.

The discussion will begin with the presentation of the book "Restare: dal caos alla coscienza" (Staying: from chaos to awareness) by Martina Marras, edited by Michela Calledda. This choice aims to refocus on the experiences and voices of those who directly experience vulnerability, in the belief that all reflection and public policy must begin by listening to people and understanding their journeys. Speakers will include Alessandro Coni, health director of the Cagliari Local Health Authority; Silvio Maggetti, child neuropsychiatrist; Daniela Falconi, president of ANCI Sardegna; Lorena Cordeddu, director of Social Services for the Municipality of Quartu Sant'Elena; Roberto Scema, headmaster of the Villamar Comprehensive Institute; Alessandro Montisci, co-founder of ASARP; and Carla Fundoni, president of the Health Commission of the Regional Council of Sardinia. The discussion will be coordinated by Caterina Deidda, president of the Epoché Association.

Institutional greetings will be delivered by Micaela Morelli, vice president of the Fondazione di Sardegna; Massimo Zedda, mayor of Cagliari; and Giuseppe Meloni, vice president of the Region and regional councilor for the budget. Closing remarks will be delivered by Anna Cau, Regional Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents, a key figure on these issues due to her institutional role in protecting children's rights and promoting their well-being. Cau will gather the insights that emerged from the discussions and reaffirm the need for a shared commitment to supporting adolescents and their families.

"Teenage hardship doesn't just affect those who experience it directly, it challenges the entire community," says Caterina Deidda. "Alongside every girl and boy in difficulty, there are families seeking a listening ear, support, and answers. We wanted to create a space for open discussion because we believe that only through shared responsibility can we build stronger communities and institutions capable of truly caring for vulnerable people."
